Managing the Chats Feature: FAQs for Event Administrators

LIMITED RELEASE

The Chats feature is available to a limited number of accounts.  If it has been enabled for your account, you will be contacted by your Project Manager with more information.

This section addresses common questions from event organizers about the Chats feature available in the Eventscribe Mobile App and Website.  You'll find information on chat settings, managing updates, and user experience limitations.  Use these insights to guide your setup and communication with attendees.

How long do messages remain in the chat list?

Chat messages will remain accessible in the app and/or website for as long as the app and/or website are available.

How can we disable the chat feature?

Can users access messages from the old message system with the new messaging feature?

No, the old messaging system will be replaced by the new one through an app update.  Users must download the updated version of the app to access and use the Chats feature.

What’s the best way to inform attendees to update their app?

There are a few options:

  • Include a reminder in your launch email encouraging attendees to download the latest version of the app from the app store.
  • Schedule a push notification within the app to prompt users to update to the newest build.
  • Example:

Update Your App!

Make sure you're on the latest version to access the newest Chats features and event updates.  Visit the App Store or Google Play to update now!

Will messages and push notifications still appear together in the app?

No.  They will now appear on separate screens. If you currently use "Messages" in the bottom navigation, we recommend renaming it to "Alerts."  Push notifications will now appear in the top header, alongside the Chats feature.  Please see, Best Practices for Enabling Chats in Your Event App.

Can attendees block other individual users from messaging them?

The ability to block a specific user is not yet supported. An attendee can change their Profile Sharing settings to disable receiving messages from all other attendees.

Can attendees tag or @mention others in chat messages?

No.  Tagging or @mentioning users is not currently supported.

Can attendees start group chats with multiple participants?

No.  Group messaging is not available to attendees at this time.

Can attendees send images through chat?

No.  Image sharing is not currently supported in attendee chats.

Is there a space where attendees can participate in broader discussion threads?

No.  Discussion forums are not currently available within the app.
