Authorize.net: Disable or Update Transaction IP Velocity Filter to Avoid Payment Failures

Cadmium is modernizing our Authorize.net integration across our Eventscribe product. While this is an overall benefit, this update will allow use of Authorize.net’s Fraud Detection Suite and may cause payment failures in your transactions depending on how the Transaction IP Velocity Filter is configured.

What You Need to Know About the Transaction IP Velocity Filter

The Transaction IP Velocity Filter in your Authorize.net account is designed to prevent fraudulent activity by limiting the number of transactions from a single IP address within a specific time-frame.

However, this filter can also block legitimate payments, leading to payment failures. This can happen because of the actions taken by the filter, such as holding the transaction for review, declining it, or placing it in a pending review state, which can delay or prevent legitimate payments from being processed. Cadmium will indicate a failure for any transaction that involves a “Decline  or “Hold” within Authorize.net.

To continue using an Authorize.net integration without any payment failures, we encourage our customers to disable the Transaction IP Velocity Filter in your Authorize.net account or update the settings.

Disable the Transaction IP Velocity Filter

To disable the Transaction IP Velocity Filter, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Authorize.net account.
  2. Select Fraud Detection Suite under Tools.
  3. Disable the Transaction IP Velocity Filter and select Save.

Update the Transaction IP Velocity Filter Settings

To update the Transaction IP Velocity Filter settings, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Authorize.net account.
  2. Select Fraud Detection Suite under Tools.
  3. Click to edit the Transaction IP Velocity Filter.
  4. Set the Transaction IP Velocity Threshold to a number higher than the number of transactions you expect to receive from Cadmium in a one-hour period.
  5. Select  Process as normal and report filter(s) triggered under the Filter Action section and select Save.
